What is audiology?

Audiology is the study of the auditory and vestibular systems, which includes the outer, middle, and inner ear, and also the study of the diseases which may affect these areas and their management tools. Included is a wide spectrum of conditions such as various types of hearing loss and balance disorders, as well as areas involving tinnitus and auditory processing.

The specialist who practices audiology is called an audiologist.

An audiologist is a professional who diagnoses and treats hearing and balance problems. An audiologist has received an Au.D. Audiologists are trained to diagnose, manage and treat hearing or balance problems for individuals from birth through adulthood.
